As you may know, we are striving to further improve the world-changing science that Diamond enables through Diamond-II; a co-ordinated programme of development that includes a major machine upgrade to a low emittance storage ring at higher energy, a programme of new and rebuilt beamlines and enhancements to existing ones.

Following the production of the science case, conceptual design report and the approved Critical Decision Stage One Report (CD-1) required by STFC earlier this year, we have been given the go ahead to enter the next stage of development aiming for a technical design review by the end of 2021 with approval for funding in 2022.

The business case for flagship beamline projects was presented to the Diamond Science Advisory Committee (SAC) and Diamond Industrial Science Committee (DISCo) in May, who recommended that a full business case should be put together for each new beamline or upgrade proposal. The Diamond team for each proposal has formed its own User Working Group with representatives from the User Community, who will build the finalised business cases, to be put forward to SAC/DISCo for consideration and prioritisation in December 2020.

User engagement and input is therefore vital for each proposal to build the strongest case possible and ensure key capabilities are captured. With this in mind, we intend to run a one day workshop on Friday 23rd October 2020, 09:00-11:00 and 14:30-16:00 (GMT)

Split into morning (09:00-11:00) and afternoon (14:30-16:00) sessions, this webinar is your opportunity to gain an insight into the Soft Condensed Matter Science Group's flagship beamline project proposal for a New High Flux X-ray Beamline (X4SCM).

Both sessions will be your opportunity to listen to presentations on cutting edge experiments by respective experts in SAXS tomography, USAXS and time-resolved “pink” beam experiments, followed by a Q&A session.

A list of speakers and a schedule for this event can be found and the bottom of this message as well as by following this link: https://www.diamond.ac.uk/Home/Events/2020/Diamond-II-Webinar--New-High-Flux-X-ray-Beamline-for-Soft-Condensed-Matter-Sciences.html

Registration for this event is required, and is quick and easy to do - once registered you will receive your unique link to join the webinar on the day.

We look forward to your participation and hearing your feedback on this exciting initiative.

Best wishes,

On behalf of the Diamond-II X4SCM User Working Group
