DESY is one of the world's leading research centres for photon science,

particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics. More

than 2400 employees work at our two locations Hamburg and Zeuthen in

science, technology and administration.

Looking back on a long tradition in research with synchrotron radiation,

DESY is one of the leading centres in the field of photon science
worldwide.

With the storage ring PETRA III and the Free-Electron-Laser FLASH, DESY

offers a unique combination of photon sources to the scientific community.

PETRA III, one of the most brilliant hard X-ray facilities worldwide,
currently

provides 20 undulator beamlines for experiments utilizing the extreme

source brilliance. A new Small-Angle X-ray Scattering beamline (P62) is

presently under construction and will receive first X-rays in 2020. lt is
in

particular designed for anomalous scattering (3.5- 35.0 keV) as well as

computed tomography of combined SAXS/WAXS experiments in hard

and soft condensed matter research. We want to strengthen the P62 team

and are looking for a candidate to support the installation and
commissioning

of the new beamline, to lead relevant scientific projects and to work
closely

with external collaborators. The work includes design and implementation
of

new instrumentation such as sample environments, development of

experimental control, data reduction and evaluation software. These tasks

will proceed in close collaboration with the beamline team members and

technical service groups.

** The position

================

- Support the installation and commissioning of a new SAXS/WAXS beamline

- Take part in the development of experiment control software based on
Tango/Sardana/Spock macros

- Design and implement new instrumentation / sample environments

- Develop own independent research using SAXS/WAXS techniques and
participate in collaborative projects with external groups at the beamline

** Requirements

================

- PhD in physics, chemistry or related disciplines

- Experience with small-angle X-ray scattering (preferably hard condensed
matter) using synchrotron radiation

- Experimental skills and interest in instrumentation development

- Good knowledge of data acquisition control software and scientific
programming techniques

- Excellent knowledge of English and teamwork abilities
