-----Original Message----- From: neutron-bounces at anl.gov [mailto:neutron-bounces at anl.gov] On Behalf Of Mathieu Doucet Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2007 14:18 The University of Tennessee is seeking candidates for a Research Associate position based at the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) in Gaithersburg, MD to work on modeling and simulation software for the Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) community. The NCNR is a national user facility that develops and makes available to the general scientific community advanced instrumentation for materials research using beams of cold neutrons. The laboratory serves almost 2000 guest scientists per year with about 29 experiment stations. More information about the NCNR can be found at the web site www.ncnr.nist.gov. The Department of Chemistry at UT is involved in a five-year software development project that will deliver applications for data reduction, data analysis, modeling and simulation. The successful candidate will work closely with the SANS community at NIST and will have a leading role in identifying the techniques necessary to extend the present analysis capabilities that will in turn enable new science. Interactions with the SNS at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN are also expected. Responsibilities will include: * Working with the SANS community to identify analysis needs. * Identify and review the techniques necessary to address those needs. * Adhering to the group's software engineering process and using those techniques, implement the required modeling and simulation tools. Desired qualifications: * PhD in physics, material science, or a related field. * Strong programming skills in Python or C. * Experience in small angle scattering is desirable. * Motivation to work in cross-disciplinary research and development teams. * Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate has been identified. In furtherance of the University's fundamental commitment to diversity, minority group members and women are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should send a resume by e-mail to Dr. Paul Butler, at paul.butler at nist.gov, and Dr. Mathieu Doucet, at mathieu.doucet at nist.gov. ---------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Mathieu Doucet University of Tennessee NIST Center for Neutron Research 100 Bureau Drive, Stop 6102 Gaithersburg MD 20899-6102 Phone: 301-975-8878
