Announcement for a PhD position on "Structure-Property of Quantum Dot Superlattices" (Nanoscience)

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate for a PhD position in Nanoscience in the group of Polymer Physics and Physical-Chemistry of Nanostructured Materials at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands). The PhD project will run in close collaboration with world-leading scientists and companies active in the field of quantum dots and nanodevices and it is part of a larger consortium which aims to study metamaterials built by quantum dots. The PhD project will last for four years.

Aim: The PhD project will focus on:
a) Study the assembly behaviour of semiconductor quantum dots by means of X-ray scattering and diffraction
b) Perform in situ study using X-rays of the structural changes occurring during the superlattice formation using different conditions
c) Elucidate the effect of the ligand nature on the superlattice formation
d) Establish routes to improve the 2D and 3D order of the superlattices

Qualifications: we look for a candidate with master degree in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, material science or equivalent, possibly with previous experience in the field of quantum dots or nanoscience. Knowledge of X-rays scattering or diffraction is a big plus. Good written and spoken English proficiency is required.
