Researcher in materials chemistry with specialisation in nanoparticle self-assembly

at

Department of materials and environmental chemistry, Stockholm University

Closing date: February 10, 2020.

Project description

We are seeking a researcher to develop our recently presented evaporation-driven poor-solvent enrichment (EDPSE) assembly method (Kapuscinski et al, Nature Comm 2019) to follow the formation, and produce complex and multifunctional nanoparticle arrays with orientational and positional order, so called mesocrystals. Nanoparticle self-assembly and mesocrystal formation will be studied in real time using primarily SAXS and attempts will be made to develop models to describe nucleation and mesocrystal growth. The research will have a strong methodological focus. Better understanding of how nanoparticles assemble has the potential to advance our understanding of crystallization in general and non-classical, particle-mediated crystallization phenomena in particular. The research will focus on studies of self-assembly of anisotropic nanoparticles and mesocrystal formation by primarily time-resolved small angle X-ray scattering together with electron microscopy and modelling. The researcher is expected to lead the time-resolved SAXS measurements at different synchrotron facilities, including application for beam-time, the design and construction of suitable measurement cells and analysis of scattering data.

Terms of employment

The position is a fixed-term full-time employment of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances.

Start date 2020-04-01 or as per agreement.
