Scientist (m/f) (Postdoc (m/f), second instrument responsible)
code no. 2017/WP 4

The place of employment is Garching near Munich

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials and coastal research. You can find more information at http://www.hzg.de .

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht conducts materials and coastal research. It runs the German Engineering Materials Science Centre (GEMS) to exploit the complementary use of X-ray and neutron radiation for materials science. GEMS operates beamlines/instruments at the synchrotron radiation source PETRA III in Hamburg and the national neutron source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching near Munich. Among the GEMS instruments at MLZ is the horizontal time-of-flight reflectometer with GISANS option REFSANS, where user service and in-house research are carried out.

We are looking for a Scientist (m/f) (Postdoc (m/f), second instrument responsible) who will contribute to our in-house research programme and will actively take part in user support at the TOF neutron reflectometer
REFSANS. Your research will be on corrosion and electrodeposition of metals at the solid-liquid interface, which is conducted in close collaboration with the Magnesium Innovation Centre MagIC of HZG in Geesthacht. The main experimental method will be neutron reflectometry.

Close cooperations with scientists at the MLZ in Garching and MagIC in Geesthacht are expected, international collaborations are highly encouraged.

A Ph.D. or equivalent in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field is mandatory. Previous experience with electrochemistry and/or scattering techniques at large-scale facilities (esp. reflectometry)
is highly desirable. Flexible team work is expected. Publishing and presenting results at international conferences, good communication skills as well as good general English language skills are expected; German language skills are an asset.

We offer an appropriate salary related to TV-AVH as well as the usual public sector social benefits. The advancement of equality at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht goes without saying; in particular, we are
striving to increase the percentage of women in the science sector. Severely disabled persons with equal qualifications will be considered preferentially within the framework of legal requirements.

Please send your application indicating job offer code no. 2017/WP 4 preferably by e-mail (as one pdf-file including CV, a statement of interest, and references) to personal at hzg.de<mailto:personal at hzg.de> . Any questions about the
position can be directed to this address, too.

Closing date for applications is September, 18th, 2017.
