Open position at the Advanced Light Source SAXS/WAXS beamline in Berkeley California:


Specific Responsibilities:
*             Lead the operation of SAXS-WAXS beamline.7.3.3 in support of the user program.
*             Lead the development of applications of SAXS-WAXS in a broad range of  materials science, in order to grow the program.
*             Develop new technical capabilities in x-ray scattering  in order to provide state of the art facilities for users.
*             Disseminate research results via publications in peer reviewed journals; present results via oral presentations at various meetings including conferences and peer reviews of projects.
*             Maintain current  knowledge  of  and implement  relevant  Laboratory,  Division, and  Program  Conduct  of Operations and Quality Assurance policies and procedures.
*             Where users have access to beamline equipment under your direction, familiarize them with operation, coordinate and schedule experiments, make sure that users are acquainted with ES&H regulations and abide by them, and give feedback to the ALS Users Office regarding publications and user satisfaction when required. Develop comprehensive documentation for user groups to maximize efficient use of the experimental station. Engage in collaborative research with user groups when appropriate.


Required Qualifications:
*             Substantial experience and expertise in the theory and application of x-ray scattering using synchrotron sources to the study of problems in materials science.
*             Substantial expertise in at least one particular area of materials science, such as the study of polymers or soft matter systems in general.
*             Working knowledge of the design, characterization and operation of x-ray beamlines used for x-ray scattering,
*             Working  knowledge  of  detector  systems used for SAXS-WAXS.
*             Working knowledge of the practice of resonant scattering for elucidating chemical structure. *
*             Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to work  effectively with a multidisciplinary team of collaborating scientists and support staff.
*             Strong publishing record in the field of synchrotron radiation research in materials science using x-ray scattering.
*             Excellent oral and written communication skills.
*             Ph.D. or equivalent experience in the physical sciences or engineering as demonstrated by broad knowledge of and experience in synchrotron radiation science and instrumentation
