The Scientific Division Functional Materials
- Institute Soft Matter and Functional Materials - is offering a post doctoral position - Neutron Reflectometry

The appointment is valid for 3 years.

The payment is based on the Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst (TVöD).

The Helmholtz-Centre Berlin for Materials and Energy is a German National Laboratory and a member of the Hermann von Helmholtz Association of National Research Centres and has about 1100 employees. It hosts the user facilities for neutron scattering, tomography and radiography BER II at the Lise-Meitner campus in Berlin Wannsee and the electron storage ring BESSY II at the Wilhelm-Conrad-Röntgen campus in Berlin Adlershof. The Institute Soft Matter and Functional Materials at the Lise-Meitner Campus combines expertise on versatile fields of soft condensed matter with the power of a neutron and X-ray scattering facility. The institute serves the BER II and BESSY II user facilities open to guest scientists from all over the world. To probe the structure and dynamics of condensed matter, BER II and BESSY II provide the national and international research community access to state-of-the-art neutron and x-ray scattering equipment and expertise.
The Institute Soft Matter and Functional Materials at the Helmholtz-Centre Berlin invites applications for a postdoctoral position in neutron reflectometry.

The position is open to post-doctoral candidates who hold a Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, biophysics, material science, engineering or similar with a strong background in experimental research in soft matter or biology. Experience in neutron or X-ray reflectometry or small angle neutron or X-ray scattering will be considered particularly appreciated.

The successful candidate will participate in the research and development work associated with state-of-the-art neutron scattering instrumentation at the neutron reflectometers V6 and BioRef. She/he will collaborate with renowned guest scientists from all over the world doing research in a broad variety of subjects in the framework of the BER II user program. She/he will participate in the instrument development scheme at V6 and BioRef. The candidate will also conduct her/his own research program in the field of soft condensed matter research primarily using neutrons, photons and dedicated lab.-based techniques, in particular in the study of bio-lubrication, responsive solid-liquid interfaces and biomimetic systems. At BER II 30% of the instrument beam time is reserved for in-house research.
