The Hahn-Meitner-Institut invites applications for the position of a post-doctoral research scientist who will participate in research programs in the area of small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) techniques and corresponding instrumentation programs. The Hahn-Meitner-Institute is a German National Laboratory and a member of the Hermann von Helmholtz Association of National Research Centres. It hosts the Berlin Neutron Scattering Centre (BENSC) (http://www.hmi.de/bensc/), a user facility open to scientists from all over the world. To probe the structure and dynamics of solids and liquids, BENSC provides scientists with state-of-the-art neutron scattering research opportunities. The position is open to scientists who ideally hold a PhD in physics, chemistry, biophysics or a related discipline and have a background in soft matter science related to proteins, interacting colloids and/or polymer science. Knowledge of computational methods as well as experience in neutron or X-ray scattering is advantageous. BENSC successfully operates a SANS (V4) and a USANS instrument (V12) and is presently commissioning a new very small-angle scattering instrument (VSANS/V16) optimized for soft matter investigations. The successful candidate will collaborate with renowned guest scientists from all over the world in a broad field of research in the framework of the BENSC user program. She/He is encouraged to conduct her/his own research program in one of the above areas of structural soft matter research using neutron scattering facilities at BENSC in general, and support the instrument development projects at V16. The duties will also include the development of data acquisition and visualisation software for time-of-flight data. This is a temporary position for three years. Applicants should send a CV, copies of diploma and PhD certificates and a list of publications to Hahn-Meitner-Institut, Abt. Personal und Soziales, Glienicker Str. 100, D-14109 Berlin, (e-mail: personalabteilung at hmi.de) before 5 July 2007 quoting reference No. SF2007/10. For further details about the position please contact Dr. Catherine Pappas (e-mail: pappas at hmi.de) or Dr. Daniel Clemens (e-mail: clemens at hmi.de). -- Karen Diederichsen Hahn-Meitner-Institut Berlin GmbH Abt.
