Dear Graeme,

First, please feel free to send me the code to look at.

Second, what I do when I am tracing such problems in convert_image
is to compile with the -g switch (and often with -O0 when optimizer
make the debugger crazy), and then set a break point in local_exit.
That then tells me where the error was reported. Then I drop the
breakpoint back to that line and work forward until I get the
call that actually tripped the error.

Error 4 is unusual in convert_image. You may wish to run make tests
first to be sure you have a clean kit in which convert_image works
correctly on the standard test cases.

As I said, feel free to send me a URL for the files and whatever code
you are using, and I'll be happy to take a look.

Regards,
   Herbert
